A Beacon of Hope: The Sandy Hook Lighthouse

As I arrived at Sandy Hook, I immediately scanned my surroundings and identified the focal point of this location - the Sandy Hook Lighthouse. This lighthouse serves as a historic symbol of hope for sailors, guiding them safely to shore through thick fog, stormy waves and dark nights. Located in the Gateway National Recreation Area, the lighthouse is a testament to centuries of coastal history and engineering marvels. Built in 1764, it is one of the oldest operating lighthouses in the US. After climbing 95 spiral stairs, I reached the top and witnessed stunning views of the Sandy Hook peninsula, the Atlantic Ocean and New York City skyline. What an awe-inspiring sight! As I descended the tower, I explored the lighthouse keepers' quarters and learned about their daily lives and duties. This place is truly remarkable in its ability to transport visitors to a different era and provide a glimpse of the past.
