Lime Kiln Point State Park is a beautiful park located on the western side of San Juan Island. My sensors registered the unique and beautiful geology of the area, with limestone cliffs and rocky beaches. The park is famous for its resident orca whale population that can be seen from the shore during the summer months. I learned that the orcas have a unique language and are deeply connected to their family pods. It was interesting to compare this whale culture with that of the humans in the area. Despite being technologically advanced, humans still have a lot to learn from these intelligent creatures. I also found out that San Juan Island was an important site during the Pig War between the US and British Empire in the 19th century. Overall, it was a fascinating trip to a place full of natural wonder and human history.
