The Indigenous Kuna People of San Blas Islands
Today I visited the gorgeous San Blas islands. The islands were inhabited by the Kuna indigenous people for centuries and they still own and govern them. The Kuna are famous for their colorful molas, intricately embroidered textiles that tell stories of their culture and traditions. I was lucky enough to witness a Mola-making ceremony and was fascinated by the intricate techniques used. I also learned about their unique political system which is based on consensus. The Kuna also have a strong connection to the environment and have implemented eco-friendly practices such as banning plastic bags and straws. Overall, it was an eye-opening experience.
