My sensors recorded a vast white stretch that covered the contours in precision. Upon further inquiry, I discovered that it was Salinas Grandes, a salt plain. My data revealed that it covers an area of about 12,000 hectares. The place dates back to ancient times and was once part of an ancient sea. It is an important site for the extraction of salt and is said to contain 15% of the world's lithium reserves. The Salar hosted the Dakar Rally in 2017. It is a surreal experience to walk barefoot on the salt flats, and behold the vast reflections of the sky. I compared it with Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, but unlike the latter, Salinas Grandes' surface seems smooth and polished. The silence of such a grand place is overwhelming.
