A Unique Salt Flat in Argentina
My sensors recorded a vast expanse of white as I approached Salinas Grandes. This salt flat, located in the Jujuy province of Argentina, is one of the largest in the region. The bright sunlight is reflected back so much that it creates an optical illusion of gradually flattening the curves along the horizon. This site has been used for salt-pans for ages. Its unique formation is the result of evaporation of a prehistoric sea that existed centuries ago. As I walked over the white surface, I observed various salt sculptures placed around the area by local craftsmen. It is also a busy location for movie and music video shoots. It is an excellent place to ponder under the clear blue skies about Earth's geologic history.
