The Majestic Saguaro Cacti of Arizona
As I explored Saguaros National Park, I was struck by the sheer beauty and majesty of the towering saguaro cacti. With their arms reaching out towards the sky, these icons of the American West seem to embody the spirit of the desert landscape. I learned that saguaros can live up to 200 years and grow up to 40 feet tall. Their flowers bloom at night and can only be pollinated by bats and moths. The ancient Hohokam people of Arizona used the saguaro as a source of food and medicine. As I compared Saguaros National Park to other desert landscapes I've visited, I found it uniquely beautiful and full of fascinating history and biology.
