Saguaro National Park, located in Southern Arizona, is home to the magnificent Saguaro cactus. As I roamed around the park, I registered the impressive height of these cacti, some standing over 40 feet tall! I learned that it takes up to 75 years for a saguaro cactus to grow its first arm and these magnificent plants can live up to 200 years old. The park is divided into two sections, with the Tucson Mountain District to the west and the Rincon Mountain District to the east. The rugged desert landscape and unique flora and fauna make this an ideal location for hiking and nature watching. Another interesting fact I found was that the Tohono O'odham Nation considers the saguaro cactus to be a sacred symbol, embodying their ancestors and providing a source of food, shelter and medicine.
