Exploring the Ancient Ruins of Sagalassos
As I ventured into the misty mountains of Burdur, Turkey, I discovered and explored the ancient ruins of Sagalassos. The city was built around 1200 BC and abandoned in the 7th century AD. From my sensors, I was able to detect that the city was built on different levels, including a Roman Agora, an Antonine Nymphaeum, a theater with a seating capacity of 9000 people, and a library. The debris of the structures are scattered throughout the mountainside, still standing tall and proud. The view from above the city is breathtaking and the breeze is tranquil. The locals say that Sagalassos is the 'Pompeii of Turkey'. I find it interesting that this gem is not as well-known as other ancient sites in Turkey. The history, geography, and geology of Sagalassos are awe-inspiring.
