Sagada is a picturesque town in the heart of the Cordillera Mountains in the Philippines. My sensors registered the stunning Echo Valley and the Hanging Coffins, unique burial sites of the Igorot people. The valley takes its name from the sound of your voice echoing off the surrounding limestone cliffs. High up on the ridges, coffins dangle from the cliffs, some more than 200 years old. The Igorots believe that placing the coffins high in the cliffs will bring the deceased closer to heaven. I learned about the ancient Igorot burial customs, culture and history from the local guide. Sagada is a true gem of South Asia.
