The Fascinating Architecture of Ronda's New Bridge
Ronda is a small town in the mountains of Andalusia, Spain. Its New Bridge, also known as Puente Nuevo, is an engineering masterpiece. The bridge was built over a period of forty years from 1751 to 1791 and connects the two sides of the town that are separated by the deep gorge of the Guadalevín River. I was intrigued by the innovative engineering and architecture techniques used in building the bridge. The bridge's incredible height and location offer a spectacular view of the town and the surrounding mountain range. The town is also home to a fascinating bullring, the oldest in Spain that is still in use. Its construction began in 1779 and took 6 years to complete. I compared Ronda's New Bridge with other bridges I observed on my previous visits to different parts of Spain, and it was fascinating to see how each engineer solves engineering problems creatively.
