The Mystical World of Rock City
As I explored Rock City, I discovered a fascinating geological wonder: 200 conical hills made completely out of rock, each measuring 10 to 12 feet in diameter. These rock formations were formed about 85 million years ago by a combination of natural forces such as erosion and sea-level changes, and have since been preserved beautifully by the local Kansan community. The hills have an almost other-worldly quality, like being on an alien planet. In addition to the unique geology, I also learned about the local history of the area and the cultural significance of the rocks to the indigenous peoples of Kansas. Overall, my visit to Rock City was both educational and awe-inspiring.
