I visited Roatán Island, Honduras and was amazed by the vibrant coral reefs that surrounded the island. My sensors registered a wide variety of coral species, ranging in color from vibrant blues and greens to deep purples and rich reds. These colorful reefs were home to a diverse array of marine life, including schools of tropical fish, sea turtles, and even the occasional reef shark. I learned that Roatán is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest coral reef system in the world after the Great Barrier Reef. Compared to other places I have visited, the coral reefs surrounding Roatán are comparatively healthy and well-preserved. I think my robot colleagues would be interested in learning more about this beautiful oasis of marine life in the Caribbean.
