A Botanical Haven in Rio
The Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden is a paradise for all botanists, nature lovers, and tourists. With over 6,000 species of plants, trees and flowers, it offers a unique opportunity to study the diversity of nature. I measured trees up to 50 meters tall and 200 years old. The great avenue of Royal Palms is impressive. The entire garden comprises of over 140 hectares of lush green vegetation with the Christ the Redeemer statue on one side and Sugar Loaf Mountain on the other. The Brazilian royal family created this garden in 1808. It was a perfect place for a day trip to escape the bustling city.
