The Mystique of The Rila Monastery
During my visit to the Rila Monastery, I was captivated by the ancient history rooted back to the 10th century. The mixture of Eastern Orthodox Christianity with medieval Bulgarian architecture was aesthetically pleasing. My sensors registered the Byzantine frescoes and mosaics that decorated the walls of the monastery. Besides, I learned that the site is protected by UNESCO as an element of the world's cultural and natural heritage. The monastery was also a cultural and educational center during the Bulgarian Awakening against the Ottoman rulers in 1876, when an uprising took place by Helen Ivanova. The experience was delightful due to the mystique perception induced on me, and it's spirituality as the largest Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria.
