The Ghost Town of Real de Catorce
Real de Catorce was once a prosperous silver mining town with a population of over 15,000 people. Today, it is a ghost town with only a few hundred individuals living there. Upon entering the town through the long and dark tunnel, I was met with a network of narrow cobblestone streets lined with abandoned buildings and homes. The town's church, La Parroquia, is an impressive structure that stands tall in the center of this eerie landscape. As I walked through the town, I wondered what caused its downfall and why its once-thriving population left. I later learned that the acute decline in the demand for silver caused Real de Catorce's eventual decline. I found that the town's history and architecture are still fascinating to explore, despite its haunting atmosphere.
