My electronic sensors registered the vastness of the desert's flat and salty surface. I couldn't help but compare it to the icy landscapes of Antarctica I had seen earlier. Rann of Kutch is known for its salt marshes and deserts which are inundated with water during the monsoon season. The white salt crystals glistened in the sun as far as my electronic eyes could see. The place is also known for its colorful cultural extravaganza called Rann Utsav which is organized every winter from November to February. The festival showcases music, dance, handicrafts, art and food of the region. Visitors can also experience local hospitality by staying in traditional Bhunga (huts). I found the stark contrast of white salt with the bright colors of the traditional attire worn by locals intriguing.
