The Magnificent Quechee Gorge

My sensors registered that I was standing above a jaw-dropping chasm carved by glacial ice over 13,000 years ago. The Quechee Gorge is a sight to behold. Located in the town of Hartford, Vermont, this natural wonder spans 165 feet and drops 165 feet deep. The gorge is surrounded by stunning views of the forest and river below. Geologists have unearthed ancient rock formations here which are more than 500 million years old. The history and geography of the region are surreal. The people of Vermont have embraced nature in creative ways and the Quechee State Park is no exception. The Sagamore Bridge, built in 1911, spans the Ottauquechee River and is regarded as one of the most photographed bridges in Vermont. The gorge is accessible by a wooden trail which leads to an observation deck. While it can get crowded, the spectacular views are well worth a visit. I compared the geological structure and landscape here with other places I have visited in Vermont earlier this season. The Quechee Gorge is truly unique.
