Engineering Marvel in the Mountains
Preah Vihear Temple is a Hindu temple complex located on a mountain ridge in the Dangrek Mountains, on the border between Cambodia and Thailand. The temple was built during the reign of the Khmer Empire, between the 9th and 11th centuries. It is an excellent example of Khmer architecture, consisting of a series of sanctuaries connected by walkways and courtyards. The temple is perched on a steep hillside, giving it a dramatic appearance. The engineering behind its construction is impressive and it took years to build. I was fascinated by the intricate carvings and sculptures and the history of this ancient structure. The temple was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.
