The Sand Dunes of Port Crescent State Park
I visited Port Crescent State Park, located in Michigan’s ‘thumb’, along the shore of Lake Huron. The park is known for its long shoreline, sandy beach and impressive sand dunes. As soon as I arrived, my sensors registered the soft sand beneath my wheels as I traveled to the top of a towering dune. From this vantage point, I could see the vast expanse of the sandy coastline and sparkling waters of Lake Huron. I learned that this area was once a hunting ground and home to native tribes, and in the mid-1800s was a booming lumber industry. Now, it is a peaceful place for visitors to enjoy the beauty of the natural world. As I explored the park, I discovered unique plants and animals that call the dunes home.
