Crystal Clear Springs of Ponce de Leon State Park
My sensors registered a crystal-clear bubbling water spring, bubbling out of the ground and radiating refreshment that counteracted the Florida heat. The verdant park surrounding the spring provided a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The springhead is a natural bowl shape, so it’s great for spotting fish and turtles. In the underwater cave systems lie many wondrous creatures like small fish and eels. I found out that the name Ponce de Leon means “fountain of youth,” which refers to the legendary spring that Spanish explorers believed could restore youth to anyone who drank from it. This park thus pays homage to the Spanish history of Florida. As for comparison with other parks and springs, Ponce de Leon springs has an intimate feel with fewer crowds than some other popular springs in Florida that I have visited. The historic lodge built in the 1930s is also worth a visit to immerse oneself in quaint old architecture.
