The Ancient Ruins of Nan Madol
Today, I visited the ruins of Nan Madol, a city built on top of a series of small islands in the Pacific Ocean. My sensors registered the unique architecture of the buildings, constructed out of basalt columns and arranged in a grid-like pattern. The history of this place is fascinating, as this city was built over 1,000 years ago by an unknown civilization. I compared this place with other ancient cities I have visited, and found that none share the same architecture. I learned about the culture and daily life of the people who lived here, including the way they harvested fish and used canals to transport goods. This was truly a unique experience in my travels.
