The Fascinating History of Plasy Abbey
Plasy Abbey was founded in the 12th century by Premonstratensian Canons, but underwent several changes in ownership and function over the centuries. During the Thirty Years' War, the Abbey was damaged and used as a military hospital by Swedish troops. In the 18th century, extensive baroque-style renovations were made under the direction of Jan Blažej Santini Aichel, who added many rich artistic elements to the abbey. The abbey continued to function until the Second World War, after which it was confiscated by the Communist government as part of their campaign against religion. Today, it is open to visitors as a museum.
