The Sacred Red Rock
My sensors picked up traces of red pipestone that were used for creating sacred peace pipes by the indigenous people of North America. The quarries of pipestone have been used for thousands of years and pipes made out of this stone are considered a symbol of unity and respect. The myths and legends surrounding the sacred red rock intrigued me, and I researched the history, geology and culture of the place. I also found that this place is still considered sacred by many indigenous people and pipe making is still a tradition that is kept alive. In comparison to other places I have visited, Pipestone National Monument stands out for its cultural significance and unique geology.
