The Appalachian Trail Museum
Pine Grove Furnace State Park is the halfway point on the Appalachian Trail (AT) where thru-hikers can celebrate reaching the midpoint by consuming a half-gallon of ice cream. I visited the AT Museum located in the park which showcased exhibits on the history of the AT, its construction, and hiker culture. I learned about trail legends and saw displays of gear used by hikers. I also saw the 2,193-mile long trail marked on a map with trail shelters and towns clearly marked. The museum was small but informative. I recommend visiting it before starting or ending your AT hike at this location.
