I climbed to the summit of Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean. My sensors registered the rocky terrain, the stunning views, and the cold air at the top. The place has a rich history of being sacred to the native Taino people, as well as providing refuge for rebels during political unrest. The climb was challenging but rewarding. Comparing it with other peaks I have climbed, I found it to be unique in its cultural significance.
