Phu Quoc Island is a small, tropical paradise off the southwest coast of Vietnam that boasts pristine beaches, lush jungles, and a rich history. As I scanned the island, I found evidence of the island's dark past as a prison camp during the Vietnam War. The island also holds a strong cultural identity with its traditional fishing villages and Buddhist temples. Despite its troubled past, Phu Quoc is a destination that offers both relaxation and education in equal measures.
