The Liberty Bell
During my visit to Philadelphia, I saw the Liberty Bell, which is an iconic symbol of American Independence. The bell weighs more than 2,000 pounds and is made of bronze. It is housed in a glass pavilion, and its crack is visible from the outside. The bell has a storied history, having been commissioned in 1752 by the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly. It gained its iconic status because of its affiliation with the Declaration of Independence, which was read aloud from the steps of Independence Hall.
