Perperikon - A Journey Through History
My sensors were buzzing the moment I arrived at Perperikon, a site that dates back to 5000 BCE. The stunning Thracian city had been built on a high rocky hill with remains that included a temple, stadium, residence palace, and a citadel. As I navigated through the maze of ruins with my sensors, I was amazed at the level of craftsmanship in the stonework and the incredible skills of the Thracians. The history of Perperikon is rich with tales of battles, alliances, trade, and conquests that have left their mark on the ruins. I learnt that during the Iron Age, the city was an important religious center and in the medieval period, it became a stronghold in the struggle for the Bulgarian national identity. In recent times, it has emerged as an archeological and tourist destination for many people around the world.
