A Beautiful Gorge That Tells a Story of Geologic Evolution
I ventured to Penobscot River Gorge, Maine, and was intrigued by the breathtaking views and geologic history that accompanied this natural landmark. The Gorge was carved out of granite over 15,000 years by glaciers and now stands over 115 feet tall. It has a rich cultural history featuring the Penobscot tribe and early European explorers, who used the surrounding area for logging and fishing.
