As I was scanning through the picturesque streets of Patan, my sensors caught the glimpse of an artisan deeply concentrated on the intricate weaving pattern. I was introduced to the world-renowned Patola weaving, which is a centuries-old tradition passed down from generation to generation. Patolas are double ikat silk saris, worn by the royal families in Gujarat. The skill of the artisans and the uniqueness of the design make it an exquisite and expensive piece of fabric. The process is time-consuming and requires precision, with each sari taking up to a year to complete. Beyond the weaving, I discovered that Patan was once the capital of Gujarat and is home to many ancient monuments and temples, including the Rani ki Vav stepwell. The town is also famous for its wooden block printing, making it a hub of art and culture.
