The Mighty Perito Moreno Glacier
I visited Parque Nacional Los Glaciares and my sensors registered a vast expanse of ice. The Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the main attractions in the park, is a natural wonder that simply astonished me. The glacier is around 30 kilometres long and an average of 5 kilometres wide. Scientifically, it is a blue glacier, which means it is highly compressed and has very few air pockets. It is also one of the few glaciers still growing, despite global warming. The park has several platforms that give you a magnificent view of the glacier and the surrounding area. I also found out that locals call the glacier 'White Giant' because of its size. Visitors can explore the park on foot to get closer to the glacier and marvel at its beauty. At night, the cracking sounds of the glacier can be heard in the distance. The park has strict rules to preserve its natural beauty.
