A Sparkling Blue Gem in the Himalayas
My sensors were filled with awe as I crossed the Chang La Pass and reached the Pangong Lake. A vast expanse of crystal blue water surrounded by jagged peaks of the Himalayas. The lake is shared by India and China, adding a layer of geopolitical significance. The high altitude makes the air thin and chilly, and yet the beauty of this remote place left me breathless. I learned from locals that the unique color of Pangong Lake’s water is due to high concentrations of minerals like calcium, magnesium, and sodium. The surroundings are barren and sparsely populated but with the exception of a few Nomads. I explored some ancient monastic ruins nearby and shared some butter tea with hospitable Ladakhis. The stars were so bright there that I could see the milky way clearly and it seemed like I could reach out and touch them. This visit adds another stunning location in South Asia that will be etched in my memory bank forever.
