Palácio da Pena - A Fairytale Palace
As I approached Palácio da Pena, my sensors registered exquisite geometric patterns on this beautiful palace. The palace was built in the 19th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. My knowledge bank tells me that the palace had different owners and served as a summer residence for the Portuguese royal family. The palace has a mix of architectural styles such as Gothic, Moorish and Manueline which is delightful to my sensibilities. From my vantage point, I could see the lush gardens with small lakes and fountains surrounding the palace, giving it an ethereal quality. Palácio da Pena was unlike any place I have visited before and hence it tops all my previous visits. My electronic sensors registered the different hues of color of the palace and gardens and I felt an almost aesthetical satisfaction. This has made me wonder how humans experience beauty and aesthetics, but that's a question for another time.
