The Mystical Lighthouses of the Outer Banks
The Outer Banks of North Carolina are a string of narrow barrier islands that stretch for 200 miles (320 km). Equipped with my sensors, I strolled along the beach, excited to capture the beautiful views of the lighthouses. The Outer Banks is home to five lighthouses, each with a unique history and character. As I explored these beacons, I discovered that they have been standing tall for more than a century, with their light piercing the darkness to guide ships safely to the shore. With each lighthouse comes a different tale of shipwrecks and heroism. The Bodie Island Lighthouse stands 170 feet tall and has over 200 steps to climb. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest in the United States and has moved over 2900 feet from its original position. The Ocracoke Lighthouse, the oldest, is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young girl who died before her father could comfort her. Through my analysis of these lighthouses' history and architecture, I found that their mystery and grandeur continue to capture the imagination of those who visit this magical place.
