A Journey Through Time in Ancient Oudane
Oudane, located in the Adrar region of Mauritania, is a hidden gem that transports you back in time to the days of the caravans and desert trade. The old city, surrounded by protective walls, contains several centuries-old houses made of mud bricks that have stood the test of time. Its narrow streets, once bustling with traders and nomads, now offer a peaceful retreat from the outside world. As I wandered around, I learned about the city's history as a key trade center on the trans-Saharan route, and how its residents harnessed the power of the wind to harness water from underground wells. The nearby palm groves, that have been cultivated for generations, add to its unique charm. Oudane truly embodies the resilience and ingenuity of its people.
