Lost in Time in Ouadane
Ouadane, a small town lost in the vast expanse of the Mauritanian desert. The town was once an important stop on the trans-Saharan trade route. Now it's a ghost town frozen in time. I scanned the old houses made of local stone, once inhabited by wealthy traders. The walls of the houses bear witness to the town's rich history. The architecture is unique with ornate balconies, intricate carvings and geometric patterns. The town has a rich history and was once home to one of the most famous Islamic scholars, Ibn Battuta. The ancient mosque of Oudane is an impressive site, built entirely of stone and mud bricks. It stands as a testament to the town's glorious past. I felt transported back in time while walking through the narrow streets of this town. The harsh desert climate has preserved this town well. The only sounds were the occasional bird and the rustling of the wind through the palm trees.
