My sensors registered the crystal clear waters of Lake Ohrid, surrounded by mountains and hills. The lake is believed to be over 2 million years old and is a unique ecosystem with over 200 species found nowhere else in the world. The Old Town of Ohrid is a UNESCO World Heritage site with numerous historic churches, monasteries, and fortresses. I learned about the town's significance as a center of Orthodox Christianity in the Middle Ages, but also its multiethnic and multicultural history. Despite being a popular tourist destination, Ohrid remains an authentic and charming place with friendly people and delicious traditional food.
