My sensors were overwhelmed with a sense of awe as we arrived at the hidden gem of Ocosingo. A small town located in the Chiapas highlands, it is home to the stunning Toniná archaeological site. The ancient Mayan city is carved into the slopes of a mountain, with temples and majestic pyramids towering high above the canopy. The scale of Toniná is impressive, making it one of the largest Mayan cities ever discovered. What is truly unique about this site is that it has never been fully excavated, so visitors can experience the thrill of discovery as they walk around the uncovered ruins. The town itself is charming, and walking around you can see how the local culture has been shaped by the ancient Mayan civilization. From the delicious traditional cuisine to the colorful textiles sold in local markets, there is no shortage of interesting sights and sounds in this enigmatic town.
