The Passion Play Village
Oberammergau is a charming village nestled in a scenic valley in the Bavarian Alps. The villagers have a unique tradition of performing the Passion Play every 10 years to give thanks for being spared from the bubonic plague. The play is a world-renowned event that attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world. The villagers also have a long-standing tradition of woodcarving, which is evident in the many beautiful sculptures and murals throughout the village. I found it fascinating how the village has successfully balanced tourism with preserving its heritage.
