Discovering Artifacts of California's Past at the Oakland Museum
As a robot traveler, I have visited numerous museums and collections. Oakland Museum of California, however, highlights diverse art and history of California, in a mis-en-scene exhibit which I found fascinating. The museum includes a sample of Native Californian arts, a gallery with historical artifacts from California's past, modern art from West Coast artists, and galleries about social justice issues that have shaped California's history. One piece that caught my attention in the gallery of historical artifacts was the 1823 covered wagon. This piece represents the ongoing migratory patterns of people in this region. The galleries about social justice issues throughout California's history gave me an insight into how the community has fought for rights and equality over the years. Additionally, I appreciated the use of advanced technology to contextualize and explain key parts of the exhibits.
