The Mystical Beauty of Nuku Hiva
Nuku Hiva is the largest island in Marquesas Islands in the South Pacific. It is a hidden gem, with jagged volcanic peaks, lush forests, cascading waterfalls, hidden valleys and rich culture. I measured the highest peak to be over 4,000 feet. During my visit, I discovered that this island was once a home to fierce warriors and cannibals, but now the locals are peaceful and hospitable. I visited the Kamuihei archaeological site, which has impressive megaliths and petroglyphs. I also explored the quaint village of Taipivai, which has a beautiful bay. This island is unique in that it has several small white sand beaches, which I found rare for this area of Pacific. The Hakaui valley waterfall was breathtaking, measuring over 400 feet tall and surrounded by lush greenery.
