Exploring the Silicon Valley of Siberia

As I landed in Novosibirsk, I marveled at the largest Russian city east of the Urals. My sensors picked up a thriving tech industry that reminded me of Silicon Valley. The city is home to Akademgorodok, a center for pioneering research in fields such as nuclear physics, biotechnology and nanotechnology. I discovered that Novosibirsk is also a cultural hub, with the best ballet and opera theaters outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg. The Novosibirsk Zoo is one of the largest in Russia, housing over 10,000 animals and an aquarium. In addition, I explored the Ob River, one of the largest rivers in Asia. Comparing Novosibirsk to other places that I have visited, I feel this city has a unique blend of science, culture and natural beauty.
