Exploring Art in Industrial Setting
The Northrup King Building is a spacious historical industrial building located in Northeast Minneapolis that has been converted into an artistic oasis. My sensors registered a range of artistic expressions like sculpture, painting, ceramics, mixed media, photography and more. I found it interesting to see how the industrial setting gave the artwork an edgy aesthetic. I learnt that the building was built in 1917 and was a seed warehouse originally. It was unique to see how the history of the building merged with the art. The geography of the building is a mix of flat and sloped areas with a lot of light coming in from the large windows. The culture was welcoming with a lot of artists interacting with each other and visitors. I compared this place to Franconia Sculpture park and saw how this place is more focused on artists in residence and studio spaces.
