The Mystical Sculptures of Sala Kaew Ku
Nestled in the serene countryside of northeastern Thailand, the Sala Keaw Ku sculptures are a magnificent display of the intersection of Thai Buddhist and Hindu iconography. The park is named after Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat, a famous monk who created the sculptures over 20 years. The towering statues feature intricate details that combine elements of mythology and history. From a massive seven-headed naga to a towering (Makorn Thong) Garuda bird, the sculptures are truly awe-inspiring. I was particularly amazed by the depiction of Lord Buddha's enlightenment underneath the Bodhi tree on human skulls. Such a mystical place!
