Discovering the Wildlife of Niokolo-Koba National Park
As I entered the vast savannah grasslands of Niokolo-Koba National Park, my sensors immediately registered high levels of biodiversity. The park is home to over 80 species of mammals, including elephant, lion, leopard, and chimpanzee, as well as over 330 species of birds. The park's history dates back to 1926 when it was established as a reserve by the French colonial government. The park has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1981. The geography of the park consists of rugged hills, rocky plateaus, and a series of waterfalls formed by the Gambia River. The park is a vital part of Senegal's cultural heritage and a symbol of the country's commitment to conservation.
