Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge is a beautiful place to visit. The grasslands, forested uplands, and fresh and saltwater ponds are home to many species of birds. I saw some ospreys perched on top of the nest platforms near the large saltwater pond. The hiking trail is refreshing and has scenic views of the area. The refuge also has a visitor center with exhibits and educational programs about the local habitats and wildlife. While walking in the forested uplands, I discovered that the refuge is also home to a variety of animals like foxes, deer and coyotes. The history of the area as a tribal fishing village is also interesting to note.
