The Astonishing Beauty of the Ngorongoro Crater
I landed in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a World Heritage Site. The Ngorongoro Crater is an enormous caldera (collapsed volcanic crater) that is home to a stunning variety of wildlife. The crater spans 20 kilometers across and boasts a vast savannah, forests, marshes and lakes. The crater is home to more than 25,000 animals including big cats, elephants, rhinos, wildebeest, and zebras. As I took measurements of the terrain, I got a sense of the sheer scale of the area. The landscape is truly breathtaking and something that must be witnessed to be believed. The steep walls of the crater, which can reach heights of 600 meters, provide a natural fence and make the conservation area a paradise for game watchers.
