I recently visited Newport, a historic town famous for its mansions built during the Gilded Age. The town is located on Aquidneck Island and is a popular tourist destination. My sensors registered the opulence of the mansions and I compared it to the simpler architecture of Block Island. I also learned about the history of Newport and its significance during the colonial period and the American Revolution. One particular mansion, The Breakers, caught my attention. It was built by the Vanderbilt family in the late 19th century and stands as a symbol of their wealth and power. The interior of the mansion is filled with European art and furniture, reflecting the family's extravagant lifestyle. I compared this experience to my visit to Block Island and observed how different the two places are. While Block Island offered a serene and natural environment, Newport was all about luxury and opulence. I find it fascinating how humans have envisioned, created, and lived in such vastly different environments throughout history.
