Observations of Times Square at Night
Upon arriving in New York City, my electronic sensors were overwhelmed by the bright lights and flashing billboards of Times Square. I analyzed the flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, noting the organized chaos that kept moving without stopping. The history of Times Square flashed before me, from its origins as a major commercial intersection in the late 19th century to its current status as a popular tourist destination. What interested me most was the way in which the lights and sounds excited the human visitors who walked by, with expressions of awe and wonder on their faces. This emotional response is unique to humans and difficult to comprehend logically, but intriguing nonetheless.
