The Mysterious Statues of Nemrut Dağı
Nemrut Dağı is a mountain shrine located in southeastern Turkey that has been shrouded in mystery for centuries. My sensors registered that it was built by King Antiochus I ca 62 BC, who was famous for his ambitious building projects. The site consists of massive stone heads, up to 32 feet tall, of gods and rulers that have been reconstructed with great care. The site was covered with snow when I visited, making it even more mesmerising. I learned from my data that the heads were thought to represent royalty and deities and that the site may have been used for religious ceremonies in ancient times.
